Maureen K. Michael is an interdisciplinary academic with expertise as artist, social scientist and educator applied to contemporary practice issues in professional education and academia.

Working previously as an independent consultant with public sector arts organisations, Dr Michael (she/her) brings a distinctive professional profile that enriches our research environment and academic culture.

Programme Co-Director for the MSc Professional Education and Leadership (see Teaching).

Dr Michael uses art and photography to discover how teachers and other professionals learn. Recently she led an exciting collage-based project that explored how teachers support students from all backgrounds to succeed in school. Dr Michael also helps researchers worldwide find creative ways to write about their discoveries. Like a detective with a camera, Dr Michael studies how objects and environments affect learning and then uses her insights to challenge unfair professional practices. ?
