我要吃瓜 me

In 2020 I joined the 我要吃瓜, and am a currently Lecturer in Spanish and Latin American Studies (SPLAS), having previously worked at Northumbria University since 1995.

Currently, I am Programme Director for SPLAS and the BA Hons in European Languages and Society with International Management. I have taught across all levels of the UG SPLAS programme, running option modules in Queer Latin American Cinema, and Crime Fiction, Film and TV in the Spanish-speaking World. I also contribute to PG programmes in the Faculty (Creative Writing, Gender Studies, and Strategic Communication & Public Relations).

My research interests span Spanish and Latin American cultures, queer popular culture, and international crime fictions. Alongside my colleague in History, Dr Nikolaos Papadogiannis, I co-founded and co-lead the Queer Studies Reading Group, based in the Faculty of Art and Humanities.

My recent co-authored articles with Sarah Gilligan on fashioning Spanish masculinities have appeared in the Journal of Bodies, Sexualities and Masculinities (4.1), and Film, Fashion and Consumption (8.2). My previous publications include editing and contributing to numerous volumes, including: (Re)collecting the Past (2016), Lesbian Realities / Lesbian Fictions in Contemporary Spain (2011), and Crime Scene Spain (2009). She is currently guest editing two forthcoming special issues of the Journal of European Popular Culture (Intellect).
