我要吃瓜 me

I am a Lecturer in Public Health here at the 我要吃瓜, and I am also Deputy Programme Director of the Master of Public Health (online). I primarily teach on the MPH, but also contribute to other health-related Undergraduate and Postgraduate teaching and supervision throughout the Faculty of Health and Sport Sciences.

I am a qualitative researcher with expertise in the Commercial Determinants of Health (CDoH) and food policy, with a growing expertise in using deliberative methods. I have conducted research on framing of CDoH policy debates, public acceptability of policies aimed at addressing the CDoH, and the power dynamics surrounding CDoH. I teach mostly on the Masters in Public Health, as well as qualitative research and analysis. My research employs a range of methods including interviews, focus groups and documentary analysis.

I am also a member of the SPECTRUM (Shaping Public hEalth poliCies To Reduce ineqUalities and harM) Consortium which focuses on commercial determinants of health in relation to alcohol, tobacco and food. SPECTRUM is funded by the UK Prevention Research Partnership (2019-2024) and includes 10 universities and multiple policy/practice partners.

I received my PhD in Social and Public Health from the University of Glasgow in 2020, examining the policy and public acceptability of online unhealthy food advertising to children in the United Kingdom. I additionally undertook a one year MRC Transition Fellowship between 2019-2020 examining media framing of sport sponsorship of high in fat, sugar and salt products.

I am currently researching public acceptability of CDoH policies, working with adults and young people. I am also undertaking research focussed on the framing of food and alcohol marketing policy debates, as well as providing insight on the use of deliberative methods in CDoH research.
