The Scottish Law and Innovation Network

Funded by .

Collaboration with University of Aberdeen and University of Glasgow.

The proposed Scottish Law and Innovation Network (SCOTLIN) is a Scotland-focused collaboration and knowledge exchange hub that promotes impactful research, outstanding teaching, and societally beneficial law and policy collaboration and knowledge exchange hub that promotes impactful research, outstanding teaching, and societally beneficial law and policy innovations. SCOTLIN aims at fostering collaboration among the existing centres of excellence and other Scotland-based experts from academia, practice, and activist groups. SCOTLIN intends to promote the study and knowledge exchange on how the law can foster innovation in Scotland, in particular sustainable and anthropocentric innovation.

Scotland has several outstanding organisations and individuals that are international leaders in the field of law and innovation. These include, but are not limited to, CREATe (UK Copyright & Creative Economy Centre), SCRIPT (Scottish Research Centre for IP and Technology Law), CRISP (Centre for Research into Information, Surveillance & Privacy), the Scottish Society for Computers and Law, and LawscotTech. These organisations as well as the informal groups existing in other universities and outside academia currently lack a body to coordinate their efforts: this would be provided by SCOTLIN.

This RSE grant would strengthen the law & innovation community in Scotland by supporting a Network that would foster synergies, promote Scottish-based cutting-edge research, organise knowledge exchange events, create collaboration and development opportunities for colleagues at all stages of their career and inclusive of early career experts from underrepresented groups.
