Working together: improving housing outcomes for the ex-Services community

The project aimed to examine the role of inter-organisational collaboration in meeting the housing needs of ex-Service personnel. Although ex-Service personnel are no more likely to be homeless than the wider population, they can face distinctive challenges, particularly around the transition from military to civilian life. The research conducted five area-based case studies across Scotland, England and Wales, examining the collaborative practice of local authorities, Armed Forces charities and other third sector organisations, to assess impacts on the housing pathways of ex-Service personnel.

The research identified significant improvements in collaboration over the past decade since the publication of the Armed Forces Covenant in 2011, which have gone some way to improving housing outcomes for ex-Service personnel. The final report is available here, including recommendations made to maintain and enhance this progress.
