The expansion of invasive non-native species into new regions is one of the defining features of the Anthropocene and has contributed to the loss of native biota and reductions in human well-being on a global scale . Invasion, specifically by non-native plants, has the potential to reduce food production (e.g. through competition and resource consumption) in both terrestrial (agriculture) and aquatic (aquaculture) systems, thereby increasing poverty in developing countries.
