Abstract
First paragraph: The search for the means to deliver the energy transition has brought to the fore the potential to engender transformative change through grassroots innovation and new forms of social and policy experimentation.1 In this fast- moving landscape, law- and policy- makers have in recent years adopted measures to stimulate decentralized renewable energy generation, with the involvement of local and rural communities, who have thus become protagonists of the energy transition.
