Abstract
First paragraph: Over the past few decades, the concept of ecocriticism has becoming increasingly used in literary criticism. All criticism is about looking deeply into texts, providing different lens to see and interpret the author's messages. Ecocriticism is a lens that asks readers to focus on how humans relate to non-human nature or the environment. Glotfelty (1996, p. xviiii) defines ecocriticism as 'the study of the relationship between literature and the physical environment.' More recently, critical consideration has been focused on 'interrogating the relationship of culture and nature through the relationships of children and animals, with particular scrutiny on the subjectivity or objectivity of the animals depicted in these narratives' (Gaard, 2009, p. 325).
