Abstract
First paragraph: After its landmark ruling in the Urgenda case in 2015, on 25 May 2021 the Hague District Court marked another milestone in the history of climate litigation worldwide by ordering Royal Dutch Shell to reduce its CO2 emissions of 45% by 2030, compared to 2019 levels. The ruling is significant in enforcing both environmental and human rights obligations on a corporation.
