Abstract
This article undertakes a detailed examination of the powers of the Attorney General of the Federation under the Nigerian Constitution, specifically with regard to criminal proceedings. These powers are specifically spelt out in the Nigerian Constitution. The nature of the office of the Attorney General is identified and evaluated. The powers of the Attorney General with respect to criminal proceedings are then discussed. The question as to whether the powers of the Attorney General are delegable is considered. Finally, recommendations are made to the effect that the office of the Attorney General be separated from the office of the Minister of Justice.
