Abstract
The chapter makes connections between popular TV format Snackmasters exploring how a semiotic analysis of this very 21st Century piece of promotion echos past media and past theories. In particular, Barthes's classic essay The Rhetoric of the Image (Barthes 1964). Branded content format is used to reposition a pizza brand - adding 'Italianicity' to its profile through the TV format. Is this advertising or not?
