Abstract
In the current chapter, I discuss cladoceran immunity to parasitism, with a particular focus on the genus Daphnia. I outline the various antiparasite defense components including behavioral defenses, immune responses, and host mechanisms for limiting the severity of disease. I also discuss how variation in cladoceran immune activity is associated with infection, and both host and parasite fitness in the laboratory and in the wild. Finally, I examine the various factors that influence the tempo and pattern of host-parasite coevolution in cladoceran-parasite systems.
