Abstract
First paragraph: Anniversaries are special times: to reflect on what has been, to appreciate the present and to look to the future. The 30th anniversary of the inception of the Model of Human Occupation is such an occasion. Over a year ago when this special issue was first mooted to Professor Gary Kielhofner, as both the pioneer of the Model and an International Advisory Board Member of the British Journal of Occupational Therapy, he warmly welcomed and encouraged its development. Nobody could have foreseen the added poignancy that it would have, following as it does so quickly after his sad and untimely death.
