Abstract
The rise of superstores and hypermarkets and the associated changes in distribution patterns have attracted substantial comment. Less well understood, however, is the way in which major retailers organize physical distribution and how the rationalization of retail outlets and increased efficiency are changing the geography of the physical distribution system.
