Abstract
The article discusses a modified value chain for the service sector and developes a typology of different roles for foreign subsidiaries of service sector multinationals. The typology is based on the degree of standardization and the geographic distance between service production and service consumption. The four types developed and illustrated by selected cases are: (1) Absent adapter, (2) close customizer, (3) distant default and (4) standardized subsidiary.
