Abstract
Semiotics is "concerned with everything that can be taken as a sign" (Eco, 1976: 7). Semiotic signs can be represented in the form of words, phrases, sentences, imagaes, gestures and objects. Lexicography, as an "art and craft" of compiling dictionary isrepresented by semiotic signs and their relationships. This study aims to address the following quesitons from a Chinese learner's perspective:1) Do lexicographers pay enough attention to the cognition process for learners of a language?2) Can the users aquire enough information in a bilingual learner's dictionary and 3) how does this information inculduce their learning and cognition process?
