Abstract
1.1For the past 11 years, Scotland has had a specialist post-qualifying course in permanence planning and family placement. It was agreed by the University of Strathclyde and by British Association for Adoption and Fostering (BAAF) Scotland (and subsequently Adoption and Fostering Alliance (AFA) Scotland) that the authors would undertake an evaluation into the effectiveness of the Securing Children’s Futures: Good Practice in Permanence Planning and Family Placement course. The course is a part-time, level 11, post-graduate social work certificate. Whilst the course has proved popular, being fully or almost fully subscribed each time it has run, with generally very positive feedback provided from students, the aim of this evaluation was to measure a more comprehensive set of outcomes.
