Abstract
Examines to what extent the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) deals appropriately with harmonised private international law (PIL) rules provided for in the Brussels IIa and Maintenance Regulations. The chapter is based on data gathered from the preliminary rulings on these two Regulations decided by the CJEU between March 2002 and December 2015. The data on case law derives from 24 cases in total (22 cases concerning Brussels IIa and two cases concerning Maintenance).
