Abstract
Reports on a survey of 65 planning authorities and the methods they use to gather information on retailing. Sixty-one used published data even though some of these are based on 1971 information; 41 used their own surveys, most often based on a personal visit census. Argues that this situation is unacceptable and so proposes two options for improving the situation, both based on the wider collection of data by government bodies.
