The project focuses on migration to and out-migration from Armenia. Armenia (an LMIC country) suffers from out-migration. The project aims to identify ways to support the integration of younger new arrivals from (1) the 'old' Armenian diaspora (mostly as a result of the Syrian War and recent conflict in Artsakh/Nagorno-Karabakh); (2) the 'new' Armenian diaspora (family-members of those who emigrated during the 1990s as a result of economic crisis, natural disaster and war) and (3) India and other countries. This mixed-methods project takes a historically-informed approach to understanding the situation of the circumstances of both new arrivals and the 'host' communities in constantly shifting context. Findings will also be relevant to other LMIC countries, particularly those affected by the Syrian War in the Middle East. This two-year project was funded by the British Academy under its GCRF Humanities and Social Sciences Tackling Global Challenges call and will run from 1 February 2021 until 31 January 2023. It is a collaboration between Stirling and Yerevan State University.
